Welcome to Lake International School! We have started the year off with a new wave of students and I am proud to be a part of their academic journey. As principal, I hold our students, teachers and staff to a high standard because I know they will be well equipped to meet the challenge head on.
As you visit this new website you will learn about our goals, achievements and our school community. Our goal for the year is to have all our students at 95% attendance. There are numerous studies that show students who miss school regularly in middle school are much more likely to drop out in high school. Research indicates that among chronically absent (1 or more times a week) 8th graders, 78% of those students eventually drop out of high school. Please let us know if you need attendance support for your child. We want to see every student on time every day!
In an effort to improve and show our school’s academic progress, we have set our goals for CSAP test scores for 2011. We hope to increase our scores from 33% in math to 55% proficient and advanced; from 38% in reading to 55% proficient and advanced; and in writing from 26% to 40% proficient and advanced. While the goals are set high, they are not impossible. We encourage parents to take advantage of the resources provided by Lake and DPS to assist your student with their academic and overall achievement in these crucial middle years.
Lastly, I want to emphasize that our school needs parent participation and involvement to ensure a successful transition into middle school. We will be reaching out to you in the next few weeks and ask you to attend parent meetings, volunteer for events, be a parent leader and just build relationships with your teachers and staff here at Lake. Your cooperation and involvement will be the driving force behind the future advancement of Lake International School.
