To prepare students for worldwide opportunities, Lake offers the following subject areas:
Language Arts – Lake International School uses a combination of both the SpringBoard Learning Strategies and Accelerated Reader. In an effort to challenge all levels of learners, the programs encourage students to actively participate, question, explore connections and discuss their ideas as an individual as well as part of the class.
Humanities(Geography and History) – Sixth grade students use Geography Alive. Textbooks used are aligned with the IB in their use of project-based learning.
Technology -Our computer labs provide students with hands-on access to Microsoft Office programs and the Internet. Each Lake student receives a school e-mail account. We also use the Dell TechKnow program which teaches children the architectural side of building a computer.
Mathematics - The connected Mathematics contains a problems-based curriculum and focuses on mathematical understanding through reflection and communication. Lake International School has the highest percentage of students receiving Algebra Credit in the Northwest quadrant.
Arts(Performing and Visual) – Visual: students have a rich array of art classes such as studio art, drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, graphic design and yearbook. Performing: Students learn to adapt their writing techniques in our after school program, Club 21, to develop a play and a sample of broadcast television.
Sciences (Earth, Life and Physical) – Project and inquiry-based textbooks guide science students at Lake. Grade 6 Earth Science uses Investigating Earth Systems,published by the American Geological Institute and It’s about Time. Grade 7 Life Science uses Science and Life Issues and Eighth Grade Physical Science uses Interactions in Physical Science.
Physical Education -The PE department uses DPS’ Dynamic Physical Education curriculum. In addition to regular PE classes, boys and girls have the option to participate in league teams . Visit our Sports Page to learn more about Lake sports offerings.
Spanish-IB mandates the study of a second language and Lake offers Spanish as the second language option.
